HEAD COACH FABIO PECCHIA: “GREAT REACTION, THE TEAM PLAYED REALLY WELL IN THE SECOND HALF”

Parma, 19 January 2025 - Head Coach Fabio Pecchia shared his thoughts at the end of Parma 1-1 Venezia, on matchday 21 of the Serie A Enilive 2024/25 season.

'I saw a brilliant match played by my side, against a team who know how to play and have scored and deserved to win in recent matches, for example against Napoli. We played our game in the second half, a brilliant display and we deserved to score. The match opened up and we had to hold on for the result. Stankovic best on the pitch? There's a feeling of regret, we had a lot of chances. Even though we risked a few counter attacks in the final stages. We always had the desire to go and play in the opponent's half, we did so with calmness and security on the ball. Many chances and many great saves from Stankovic, kudos to him. I also want to give kudos to my players, a great reaction and desire to stay in the game. The three changes? When we went behind we need a different kind of passing game, the pitch was shorter, there wasn't much distance to cover, there wasn't a need to attack deep, but rather a need to play a different passing style. After the penalty, we seemed more nervous and tense, we could've scored with a corner from Cancellieri that would've sealed the game. We reacted very well in the second half, playing calmly despite being a goal down, in an important match. But the team stayed united. Considering the youthfulness of the side, the objective has to be clear for everyone: despite the young age and the many absences, this team showed that they know how to stay in the game and create chances. Given the moment that we're in and the circumstances we are facing, the second half was wonderful. Camara? I am happy with him, he is my consultant in the locker room. He has quality, when he plays he is determined and always creates something, causing some discomfort for the opposition. Today, like other times, he came in with the right attitude and had the desire to face different situations without holding back. He is very young and needs careful management. In terms of the penalty for Parma, Candela, who was already booked, gave a pull which could've warranted a second yellow: the situation was evident for everyone. Do you agree? We'll let it slide, if everyone can see it... everyone is able to analyse it. From a technical point of view, it's a judgement that has to be made by the appropriate authorities. But, it happened like this, I protested a lot: at the end of the match I asked for an explanation from the referee, he explained his point of view and it ended there'.
