Collecchio, 24 April 2026 – Comments from coach Carlos Cuesta during the press conference ahead of Matchday 34 of Serie A Enilive against Pisa, held in the Press Conference Room at the Mutti Training Center in Collecchio.
OBJECTIVE: SAFETY (AVOIDING RELEGATION)
“Mathematical safety? That’s not our only objective. The goal is also to keep improving the team consistently. The result depends on many factors. We know how important the match is. Tomorrow, we need to have a great game with our fans behind us and approach every day with the same mentality, which is the mentality of growing and improving.
We are doing well, we know that, but we want to achieve more so that every matchday reflects improvement and growth in our style of play. We are working towards that, and the week does not change because of anything else.
The Napoli vs. Cremonese result? It doesn’t depend on us; it’s not under our control. We must continue with our work so that tomorrow we can deliver a great performance with our fans. That is the objective.”
THE MATCH AGAINST PISA
“Over the week, gradually, all the players have returned, and everyone is available to start the match. We have the same drive to do well, that same determination, clarity, and continuity in our growth and our results.
We are aware that it will be a challenging game. We’re facing an opponent who has achieved more than their league position suggests and who has some key strengths. We must approach it with humility and clarity about what we need to do to control the play.
Avoid repeating the mistake made against Cremonese? Pisa are a team that can combine direct play and more than that. They’re very physical and dangerous on set pieces.
We must rely on our strengths and play in a way that draws our fans into the game with us. All our supporters will be giving us a huge boost.
We must approach the match in a way that plays to our strengths and the desire to dominate.
Only 24 goals scored? Points come from results, and results come from scoring more and conceding fewer. Both aspects must be considered. Goals can give you many points, or none. The number of goals is a means to win matches, but what really matters for points is results. The balance has allowed us to earn more points.”
DELPRATO, AN EXEMPLARY LEADER
“Delprato can play anywhere; he’s very versatile. He can play many roles, but his best position is in a back four.
His ability to produce high-level performances and give his all to the team as a leader speaks for itself. He does that in every position. He is truly an example to be followed: always available for the group and doing his best wherever he plays.”
NDIAYE’S RETURN
“After his recovery, he has been training with us consistently for 5 to 6 weeks, in a daily routine within a different context. He joined with some language difficulties, he was playing with discomfort, and these factors limited his performance. Now he is a lot better; he can build chemistry with the team and the defensive line. We hope he can help us deliver high-level performances, as he did in Udine.”
CUESTA’S FUTURE
“I’m already discussing the future, the future I’m interested in is tomorrow’s game and delivering a great performance. That is what I’m focused on. We are focused on the game so we can grow. I have already spoken about how I feel here, about the overarching atmosphere with the players and the management. There isn’t much else to add about me today. Right now it’s about the team. It’s time for us all to come together and deliver a great performance tomorrow and win.”
