Como, Sunday 17 May 2026 – Carlos Cuesta's comments after Como 1-0 Parma on Matchday 37 of the Serie A season.
“I would say that up until the goal, they were the better side because they managed to sit very deep. Whenever we wanted to press high, they were able to play through it, and once we recovered possession, we didn’t manage the ball well enough. We weren’t good enough in our short build-up play, and that forced us to defend very deep. It’s true that, when defending in a low block, we didn’t really suffer much. But there is always that feeling of discomfort and pressure from the opposition, and it’s not easy to deal with. After the goal, though, we managed to press better and progress more effectively through long balls, winning second balls. That’s when we created three chances — one being the disallowed goal, and then two more from set pieces. We pushed, tried to find an equaliser, but we couldn’t manage it, so congratulations to them. Our momentum? For the first 60 minutes, they were very good on the ball and were able to play out whenever we pressed high. It wasn’t easy for us to gain territory. From the 60th minute onwards, we pressed better, which allowed us to spend more time in the opposition half, and with those three chances we could have changed the result. The dynamic of the match improved in the final thirty minutes, but we’re disappointed with the result.” On Elphege, he added: “He had some issues during the week and picked up a knock. His presence was a real strength, since we tried using two strikers against their central defenders. Now we have to return to the Tardini and beat Sassuolo.” On Cesc Fàbregas and his Como side: “Congratulations for the work he’s doing — to him, the club and the supporters. Reaching Europe is very difficult, and they are all doing an excellent job.” Finally, asked about his own future at Parma: “There is a contract in place, so… We have to evaluate everything we’ve done up to now and understand how we can continue to grow.”
