Bergamo, 25 May 2025 - Cristian Chivu's post-match words after Atalanta 2-3 Parma on Serie A 2024/25 Matchday 38.
“Ondrejka and Hainaut? They are two players that contributed massively from the bench, ensuring they're ready to make an impact with their qualities. It is now too easy to speak about substitutions or luck or intuition, when subs make an impact, the manager is said to have good intuition. However when it doesn't work out, the manager gets slaughtered. We will move forward from this. Today we played with heart and personality and we worked to stay in this league and reach our goal, despite being two down at the break. We were not comfortable with the other results, but we came here to reach our goal, to try and win the game, and we managed to do it with determination and bravery. We pressed man by man, in groups of five to try and win the game. Then we went 1-0 down, and then 2-0, but those who came on for different reasons (Valeri has had an issue since Napoli, Hernani Jr had a muscular issue), turned us into a group of real men and I would like to emphasise this as they put their heart and souls into everything over these past three months. They deserve safety as they have given everything, they have tried to improve everyday and they have benefited from this from a human point of view too. I commend them for supporting me over these three months. I never want to change and I hope that people come to understand what I'm like. I do everything out of passion and gratitude, for those who have faith in me, including the club. Then there are these fantastic boys, I do it all for my staff that have given me so much. We have found things that have become well implemented in this club. We can all improve but I want to thank everyone today: if you see someone win the Scudetto and come into this press room, it would be like me today as this safety feels like a Scudetto. There are few times that, even though I won a lot as a player, I have been so happy and proud of so many different people. And this is deserved by the boys, the staff, and the club who knew how to implement my work and put faith in us. Thank you to the Performance Team, the medical staff, the club. all those who work for Parma and above all the fans, who were magnificent today'.
