COACH CARLOS CUESTA: “A STRONG PERFORMANCE — WE WANTED ALL THREE POINTS”

Rome, 4 April 2026 – Comments from head coach Carlos Cuesta after Lazio 1–1 Parma, played on Matchday 31 of the Serie A season.

“There’s a sense of disappointment, because it feels like a missed opportunity. In the first half, when we had the ball we were able to progress well and manage possession effectively. We produced a very good performance, but we knew we were facing a strong opponent who could cause problems with their individual quality. They managed to equalise, and we'll take the point — it helps us move up the table. At the same time, though, we came here to win and take all three points, and that’s what leaves us disappointed. The team’s energy was right from the very first moment, and we know that we have to maintain that, while continuing to add even more quality to our play. We’re not making mathematical calculations about the table — our focus right now is on improving our performances. Next we'll turn our attention to the match against Napoli. We want to go out there, collect points and deliver a big performance in front of our fans, because they deserve it. There’s a key concept in football: compactness. When you lose the ball, you need to reorganise immediately so the team stays compact and the defensive block remains organised. I also saw good quality in our play, especially in the first half, and that’s something we need to keep developing. After two difficult defeats, we see this result as a turning point — understanding where our strengths lie and making them even stronger, while continuing to evolve and improve. This spirit — giving everything for the team and improving for our fans so they can be proud of us — is essential. I'm pleased with the performance. We'll take the point, but of course there is regret, because we wanted three and we were close to getting them. The first half was very positive: we managed the ball well and stayed compact when we didn’t have it. Everyone worked hard to be solid and organised. That compactness has to be there both with and without the ball — it’s one of the strengths of our team. We'll take a point against a high-level opponent, but at the same time we came here to win.”
