Parma, 13 December 2025 – The comments of coach Carlos Cuesta after Parma vs Lazio on Matchday 15 of the Serie A season.
“We’re truly disappointed. It wasn’t the result we wanted, especially given all the circumstances of the match. We failed to make the most of our numerical advantage and, from a rare situation, they managed to score. We weren’t able to react.
We wanted to do more: to create space, to look for combinations that help you find room, to force set-piece situations. But we’re not used to this kind of scenario. We have to do better and analyse everything that didn’t work, continuing to put the work in.
We’re sorry for the fans. We wanted to build continuity, especially when you’re given an opportunity like this. The team’s attitude and reaction have always been consistent: I’m absolutely convinced we’ll respond and be better.
The idea was to move the ball quickly and find spaces inside, but against top-level teams that defend very well, it isn’t easy. When you’re in that situation, you try to exploit the qualities in the box with players like Pellegrino and Benedyczak.
It was a tough day. At no point do I question the courage or the attitude of the players, but we weren’t able to do what we wanted. I know it’s difficult to bounce back, but we will.
We’ve faced many challenges in recent months, with injuries and other situations, and we’ve always used them as opportunities. Today we lacked precision. Lazio were well organised in their defensive block. We delivered many crosses but weren’t sharp in the execution or in the key moments. They defended well with numbers, while we didn’t make the most of our qualities.
We know we have to hit our maximum level more consistently to get the points we want. Lazio created one decisive moment and scored; when we had our chances, especially in the second half, we weren’t able to capitalise. We lacked clarity in those situations.
Having a two-man advantage can lead to trying too hard, sometimes taking unnecessary risks. It’s something we hadn’t dealt with before, and we need to handle it better in the future.”
